Now, gather all files you created in the other steps and input them to the tools of terragear. FlightGear is perfectly able to represent extreme airports like Courchevel but we don't have the elevation data or the tools to create these data for them. This is really a pity because FligthGear has the ability of managing much better elevation than it currently shows. shp files.Īs far as I know, there is not any tool to modify elevation files without running a network of satellites. Probably, "woods" is not specific enough: you will prefer sclerophyllous.shp, shrub.shp. shp file for each terrain type: woods.shp, crops.shp, water.shp. shp files from OpenStreetMap (roads, rivers, coastlines and some terrain areas), for example. shp files from this page: (layer clc06 for Europe, cs for the rest of the world) You can also download. The terrain included in FligthGear is not editable directly. If you are only interested in modifying a single airport, in this moment you could kindly send this leto.dat file to some scenery developer FlightGear manages "tiles" (i.e., rectangles of terrains) so you have to convert also the surrounding terrain. Unfortunately, you cannot convert just the airport. Then, you can convert this leto.dat to the format that FlightGear understands using terragear. Create/modify your airport in WED and when you are satisfied, export the airport to an apt.dat Rename the file to something informative, such as leto.dat! Alternatively, you can download the apt.dat file of a single airport from this page: Drawing airports in WED is very easy. Look for the apt.dat in the FlightGear folder, Airports/ Probably, your PC won't be able to handle as many airports as the apt.dat file includes, so you have to open the file in a text editor and remove all airports except the ones you are interested in. The complete list of existing shared objects available for you is here: (check models->categories) th_the_UFO Keep in mind your terrasync directory includes many more shared objects that can be placed using the UFO than the core of FlightGear. 3D objects are placed using the UFO and you won't need any tool external to FlightGear. Blender/SketchUp is the way to create specific buildings if they do not exist. I have built some airports for some users in the past, and I know elegaton also volunteers for this.

In this case, you draw your airports in WED and submit the exported files to these users. If you are only building one or two airports, you best option is finding a user that can build them for you. Beware: terragear is not very user friendly and it seems currently only works correctly in Linux. WED->TerraGear is the way to build airports. After some months and if you really need it, move to QGIS. QGIS->TerraGear is the way to create general scenery (water, roads, landclasses.) This is very hard and you need lots of efforts to change the terrain! As a piece of advice, build your skills by placing 3D objects and modifying the textures in your region. Currently, there is not any easy way to modify the elevation of the scenery. TaxiDraw is very old, don't use TaxiDraw for any version newer than FligthGear 2.10 Nobody died. There are lots of different answers to this question, depending on your objectives. But, as CW4 "Moon" Mullins (my first in-country instructor) would say "It was a good day. St Eustatius (my third stop) is reporting winds 05021G38 020V060Īpparently, I forgot to upload the new Saba static objects. If you wish to try your takeoff and landing skills in windy conditions, today is the day. I'm thinking about doing a video showing the new changes, but I want to ensure it looks as good as it should.Įdit: There is the alternative of using OBJECT_STATIC models, but that requires including those models with the scenery update.

I still get a bunch of missing texture messages. I downloaded some models, but apparently I don't have all you have. When modifying St Barts, I looked at the standard model list, and many of the objects would be missing. Mostly moved objects clear of the runway and Where can a user get a more complete inventory of models? The stock model list installed with FG is severely lacking. I made improvements to Marie Galante airport yesterday.
